Acer security update: Cruise Control is being disabled

On its German support page, Acer describes a mandatory security update for the AES025, AES035, and PES035 e-scooters. Following the update, the "Cruise Control" or "Auto-Drive" feature will be disabled. Our source check from September 13, 2026, summarizes what the manufacturer has confirmed and which details are still missing for individual vehicles.
What Acer confirms
- Affected models: AES025, AES035, and PES035.
- Deployment: As an over-the-air (OTA) update, i.e., wireless firmware update.
- Change: Deactivation of Cruise Control/Auto-Drive.
- Reason according to the manufacturer: The drive should remain under the active, continuous manual control of the rider at all times.
The German Acer notice refers to the measure as mandatory and as an adjustment for product compliance. It provides neither a specific firmware version nor a list of serial numbers or a country-specific rollout schedule. An original publication date is also not specified in the visible text of the notice. Therefore, today’s source check is not evidence that the rollout is only beginning today.
How to check the status of your scooter
Our recommendation: Note the full model designation from the type plate as well as the currently displayed firmware version. Compare this identifier with the manufacturer's list before drawing conclusions based on a similar product name. Keep a screenshot of the update notification for any follow-up questions.
If no update is offered or the version remains unclear, ask Acer support whether your specific vehicle is already included and which version is intended. Providing the model, serial number, current software version, and the exact error message is helpful. Do not publish serial numbers in public comments.
For installation, follow the official instructions for your device. It is not possible to derive a universal sequence of steps, minimum charge level, or installation duration from the short notice. You should not apply these details from a different scooter model.
Software version matters for buyers too
For used listings, it is worth asking the seller a specific question: Which firmware is installed and which functions are actually available with it? Have the current status demonstrated to you instead of relying solely on older listing photos. Anyone basing their purchase decision on a specific feature should clarify its availability with the manufacturer in advance.
The also-announced Predator ES Thunder Pro carries the model identifier PES037. Our article on the PES037 covers this separate new release. Further questions for comparing models can be found in our e-scooter buying guide.
Note on this article: Source check from September 13, 2026. Based on the linked Acer notice; no independent firmware testing performed. Version number, start date, and the assignment of individual vehicle variants are not fully stated therein. The current instructions from Acer for your device are authoritative.
