VMAX VX5 PRO: German 40 km version reviewed for 549 euros

Offer check from October 3, 2026: The VMAX VX5 PRO is available for order in the German manufacturer's shop in the "40 km / 20 km/h" version for 549 euros. The cheaper 30 km version with 20 km/h, however, is listed as unavailable. Anyone looking for the entry-level price should therefore pay attention to the specific variant. This article examines an existing scooter, not a new model launch.
The variants in the current shop status
| Manufacturer range | Speed | Price | Order status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 40 km | 20 km/h | 549 euros | orderable |
| 30 km | 20 km/h | 499 euros | not available |
Source: German VMAX product page and its current variant status. The 25 km/h versions also offered must be treated separately; the site marks this selection as not road-legal.
Our assessment: A displayed price of 499 euros is, in the checked status, not an orderable offer for the German 20 km/h version. The next higher orderable selection costs 50 euros more. Before purchasing, the range level and speed should therefore be compared together; an available version with a different speed does not replace the desired model.
Handier than large models, but without suspension
For the 40 km version, VMAX cites, among other things, a weight of 17.2 kilograms, 400 watts of motor power, 800 watts of peak power, nine-inch pneumatic tires, and front and rear turn signals. Suspension is not indicated in the specifications table, neither front nor rear.
For commuters, this results in a concrete trade-off: frequent carrying and longer rides over uneven paths place different demands on a vehicle. Our recommendation is to first consider the actual transfers and stairs, and then the desired riding comfort. A test ride on your own typical surface says more about this than a single performance value. We have not ridden the VX5 PRO ourselves for this article.
40 kilometers remains a manufacturer specification
The product page explains its range conditions as 75 kilograms rider weight, 20 to 25 degrees, level terrain, little stop-and-go, and Eco-mode at 20 km/h. The maximum distance is therefore not a guarantee for every commute.
When planning, the outward and return journey as well as charging options and reserves should be considered separately. The higher nominal range level can provide leeway, but does not provide proof of a specific daily distance in autumn weather.
KBA entry and preparation for the first ride
The KBA register as of September 28 lists the type VMAX VX5 Pro under P480 from March 7, 2024; LT, ST, and GT are mentioned. This is an existing ABE (General Operating Permit), not a new approval from today. The older type VX5 has its own entry, P358.
According to eKFV § 2, public use also requires a valid insurance sticker and a vehicle that corresponds to the approved type. In the support guide, VMAX explains the data confirmation for German 20 km/h scooters as well as checks of tires and brakes before the first ride. The app is described there as optional.
For comparison: Our VX2-HUB check covers a different VMAX model. Identical geometry or fit should not be inferred from this for skins.
